When and where on Tuesday, June 13th, should I arrive?

    The Jesuit Leadership Seminar check-in runs from 12 -3:30 p.m. in the lobby of Santa Clara Hall, #7 on this campus map. If you arrive earlier, you may check into your room beginning at 10:00 am, but please note that the housing staff at Loyola will not be able to assist you with Seminar related issues. The Seminar begins promptly at 4 p.m. on the 4th floor of the Klarcheck Information Commons (#16 on the campus map) with welcomes, introductions, and our opening talk. A “Taste of Chicago” dinner will follow in the beautiful and historic Piper Hall on Lake Michigan (#27 on the campus map).



    What if I experience travel delays?

    We will solicit your arrival information and provide you with our emergency contact information closer to the Seminar, but please plan to let us know if you encounter unexpected travel delays.



    When should I depart Loyola after the Seminar?

    The Seminar will conclude by 1 pm on Friday, June 16th. All participants should depart that afternoon. If you intend to stay longer, please let us know.



    Can I arrive earlier than the 13th? Can I depart after the 16th?

    We have reserved a limited number of rooms for those who wish to arrive earlier than the 13th, or depart after the afternoon of the 16th. These rooms are available for $100/night on a first come-first serve basis. Please indicate this on your registration form and/or contact us if you are interested in these accommodations.



    Which airport should I fly into, Chicago O’Hare, or Midway?

    The difference in distance is nominal. Please choose the airport that best fits your flight needs.



    Where can I park if I drive?

    Parking for the week in either P1 or P2 structures (see campus map) will be open for your use. Pull into the roundabout in front of Santa Clara Hall when you arrive at LUC. At this time you can check-in, drop-off your luggage, and pick-up your parking passes.



    How can I get to campus from the airport?

    There are a variety of transportation options to and from the airport. The address of Santa Clara Hall is 1000 West Loyola Ave.


    Taxis can be picked up at either airport. A taxi from the airport to the Lakeshore campus will cost around $50-70 to/from O’Hare and $40-60 to/from Midway.


    Go Airport Express shuttle operates to and from O'Hare and Midway. Please choose the Loyola University- Lakeshore Campus as your destination. This shuttle service costs about $40-50. To book a shuttle, please visit airportexpress.com.


    Public transportation is available and will take approximately 90 minutes from the airport and require one transfer. Specific directions for the “El” train system can be found on Google maps or at TransitChicago.com.



    How long does it take to get to Loyola University’s campus from the airport?

    By cab or shuttle, please allow 1 hour or more to travel to and from O’Hare or Midway. By public transportation, it will take 90 minutes (approx.) on the “El” to get to the Lake Shore campus.


    Where will I stay during the Seminar?

    All Seminar participants will stay on the beautiful lakeshore campus of Loyola University Chicago in Santa Clara Hall. Santa Clara Hall is a nine-story apartment-style residence hall located on the shores of Lake Michigan. This building re-opened in Fall 2008 as a newly renovated, 200 bed residence hall. All suites in Santa Clara are double occupancy. You will have a private bedroom with bath, and share a living room and kitchen with another Seminar participant. Suitemates will be assigned, unless you request a room adjacent to a specific colleague.



    What is provided in the rooms?

    • The rooms are fully furnished, including linens and alarm clocks.
    • Participants are encouraged to bring their own toiletries and hair dryers.
    • There is a laundry room with an ironing board on each floor for your use. Detergent and irons are available at the front desk.
    • Santa Clara Hall is right along the lakefront with public access. If noise is a concern at night please let us know and we will reserve a non-lakeside room for you.
    • The City of Chicago has a non-smoking policy. This ordinance states that no one may smoke within 15 feet of any entrance to a building designated as a non-smoking building, including Santa Clara Hall.
    • There are no phones in the rooms.
    • If you like to read in bed, please note that the rooms do not have lamps and bring along a book light.


    What else will be provided in Santa Clara Hall?

    • Coffee and tea will be available in the lobby by 6:00 a.m. Wednesday-Friday
    • A business center, located off the lobby, will be available with a copier, printer and computers.


    Will I have access to the Internet?

    All rooms have Wi-Fi access, and participants will be given Ethernet cords in the event of Wi-Fi disruption.



    Will I have access to a gym?

    All participants will be given access to the campus gym.



    What should I pack?

    Dress code is business casual. Be sure to bring layers for inside air conditioned rooms and evenings by or on the lake. If you want to stay dry, don’t forget your umbrella. If you want to swim in Lake Michigan bring a swimsuit or wetsuit as the lake may still be quite cold. If you intend to utilize the workout facilities in the campus athletic complex, bring along gym clothes and footwear.



    What if I require additional accommodations?

    If you have not already done so via the registration form, please let us know via e-mail. For food related accommodations, please note that the buffets or food stations will accommodate all special dietary needs. The plated dinners will require some notice for proper preparation, something which we are happy to arrange.

    Let the front desk at Santa Clara Hall (staffed 24 hours) know where to locate you during the Seminar and your messages will be delivered by Loyola staff members.
